A once tremendous blog is following the same footsteps as with all things great...everything eventually peaks. It reminds me of the Happy Days episode when ratings were falling and they had to do something to bring back the audience.
This was gonna be big, so thought the TV execs. It turns out that Fonzi jumping over a shark tank off the coast of California was an ender. Like Jesus on his cross, he wasn't dead until the Roman drew his weapon into his side.
This my friends happened tonight on Slope of Hope. A great site, created by a great man, Tim Knight. After six years, tonight signaled its demise. Like a stock, it could still rise for awhile, but irreparable technical harm has been done.
What made it great, what its founder stood for has been trampled on by a small few. It was Tim who had the vision to create a site based on Stocks and the Market, but also on pop-culture and humor. His verve for the abstract and bizarre made it a place YOU had to visit. I remember one such post that even shocked me. I remember thinking, "Oh my God, I can't believe he posted that!" Then I laughed and said to myself, I like him...he has ball."
The post was of a little flick of a bizarre creature fucking a wall. It was so wierd and bizarre but so funny. I thought...I can relate to this guy and these people...and I did for a long time...I made great friends there...
But we have all been castrated by a few people that find Tim's kind of humor, espoused by many others on SOH, as repulsive and offensive. Perhaps it is for some. But then I don't know why they chose to look at such things, as Tim has created an out for them. It is an "ignore" button!
These people have circled the wagons around Iggy and TK to ban the likes of me and others for professing the same kind of humor that is tolerated by many old timers on the site but not us. They have decided to tar and feather us instead of using the appropriate "Ignoring" button. You see it is not the humor they find offensive it is who is delivering it to them.
I believe their will be a new light, a ray of sunshine that sweeps across SOH, as the old timers and bitchers alike celebrate, but what they have done has already unsettled the foundation of the Slope. Greatness fades like father time, death is certain, just no one knows when.
Well said LB. I joined SOH for the very same reason of humor by Tim Knight.
